Austin Psych Fest Photo Essay (2013)
On the Friday night of Austin Psych Fest, 2013, the weather was perfect and the bands were groovy.
The first band I saw after driving straight from Houston was the middle-eastern sounds of Tinariwen.
Then I saw people blowing bubbles in the perfect spring weather.
This was followed by a blistering performance by the Suuns, which was just as intense as their show during SXSW 2013.
Then there was a set from the all-girl band Warpaint
Saturday night at Austin Psych Fest started with Man or Astroman, complete with space-ready jumpsuits:

After Man or Astroman played, the sky fell. Buckets of rain. Cats and dogs falling from the sky. It’s the wettest I’d ever been when I haven’t been at a waterpark.
Still, after a long delay and a quick relocating of gear, Os Mutantes went on with the show.

After walking around in the mud, it was time for a tasty doughnut.
After the rain, Deerhunter played.
When we managed to escape the mud of the parking lot and got home, this is what our mudproof boots looked like. We’d actually scraped a lot of mud off before we got into the car.
On Sunday, the sun was back out and the field was dry. People were in a party mood, while there was still a bit of evidence from the night before’s epic disaster.

On the riverside, the two women of Deap Vally played late Sunday afternoon to a riverbank full of people.
