Thor and Friends
Have you seen Thor & Friends, the musical collective from Austin’s Thor Harris?
Earlier this winter, the group played a show at the Lemon Lounge in Austin, in support of their new record, The Subversive Nature of Kindness.
To quote Michael Toland in the Austin Chronicle:
Nonconforming percussionist Thor Harris and his idiophone sidekicks don’t so much unleash The Subversive Nature of Kindness as leave the back door open and let it escape.
While the photo set above captured a lot of the event, it didn’t capture everything that happened. The spiritual component and the bonding ritual of being together in a public space was much in evidence when “Thor and Friends” played an intimate show at the Lemon Lounge in Austin’s hip Eastside area at the start of December. Late in the evening, there appeared to be some family bonding going on. Two girls who appeared to be just old enough to have started school were sprawled asleep in the front row, while their mother appeared to be having a restful moment of her own with the girls sprawled around her. The adorable sleeping group attracted smiles from everyone around them. That positive and peaceful feeling had spread out from the stage to the sleeping family to the crowd. It was all about the good vibes, man.
If you missed the show, you can catch the group in Marfa,Texas where they play at Marfa Myths on Tax Day.
