Friday Night at Couch-ella
One of our earlier Couch-ella streaming systems.
For the past few years I’ve gone to Couch-ella. No, not the actual Coachella Festvial, but the livestream version of it, watched from the comfort of my very own couch.
This year I stared off the festival a little bit down, as my usual Couch-ella companion–a yellow lab named Mr. Spanky—was unexpectaly called into the other world earlier in the week.
Trying to shake off my dog-loss funk, I stared off the festival by taking a shower, even washing my hair. I selected my friday festival garb—a navy blue cotton bathrobe with a vaguely Japanese print. It’s dark enough to hide any festival stains.
When we turned on Couch-ella, Eagulls was playing. Sounding like a cross between a threatening rain day at the beach a the musical outpouring of depression, the band from Leeds was pleasant enough, but not too exciting.
I decided that it was time for cider, brought to us by the official cider sponsor of Couch-ella—Austin Eastciders. And we hit up the official Couch-ella pizza concession, Austin’s Conan’s Pizza, which has recently really upped their vegan pizza game. (The 29th street location even has some fab vegan creamy Italian dressing!)
Then we watched Jenny Lewis! She sounded great, and her set looked just like a Lisa Frank folder. I was also surprised at how skinny Lewis looked, even in a white suit. Surely she wouldn’t be sitting home drinking cider and eating vegan pizza on a Friday night.
Then there was more cider, and the rest of the evening was a blur. Couch-ella was a success!
Update: There’s a video of the Eaguls show!
