Fantastic Fest “The Man In The Orange Jacket”
Following Labor Day and with the arrival of our first big fall rain, it’s clear that we are on the cusp of festival season in Austin!
Looking at the lineup for the fab Fantastic Fest (September 18-15), I was surprised to see a Latvian film “The Man In The Orange Jacket” on the festival lineup this year! (I have a zillion friends in Latvia, and I’ve been going there nearly every summer for the last few years.)
Since the name of the director wasn’t obviously Latvian, I was curious about the Latvian connection. Twitch Film tells us, “Aik Karapetian, born in 1983, received his MA degree in film directing from the Latvian Academy of Culture.”
Reviews of this horror film have been mixed but I’m curious to see how it does with the hardcore Fantastic Fest audience.
There’s an Estonian connection in this horror film as well, but it’s hard for me to get super excited about Estonia.
I’m not sure how I missed the twitter fracas, but it was, indeed, an interesting “peek behind the curtain”—at what, though, I’d hate to say. I’m quite concerned about that whole region, as we’ve friends in several countries in flux. One finds it difficult to know what, if any, action one can/should take on behalf of our friends at home abroad.
