You Can’t Go Home Again: A Photo Essay.
Last month I went to the Hanks family reunion outside of San Augustine, Texas. One of the major points of discussion was about how the “old home place” (which is still owned by the family) had finally more than half-tumbled down. I’d forgotten that I had pictures of the dogtrot house –the place where my grandfather grew up– that I’d taken on my last visit there.
My uncle Wayne–who has grandchildren now–told me he’d helped re-tin the roof of that house when he was about 14.
