In Florida? Visit the Fab Weeki Wachee Springs!
It’s summer, the time when so many people head to Florida for family vacations. Since part of my family lives in Florida, I’ve spent a lot of time there.
Since I’m not big on crowds, spending money or getting up at dawn, we don’t go to the theme parks all that often.
On my last trip to Florida, during the Thanksgiving holidays last year, I went to theme park (now owned by the State of Florida) that I LOVED! We went the day after Thanskgiving, when everyone else was going to the mall!
There was a MERMAID SHOW included in the price of admission! And it was (maybe) even better than the one that they used to have at Aquarena Springs in San Marcos, Texas featuring Ralph The Swimming Pig!
Weeki Wachee Springs State Park was amazing, and not crowded at all in the time of year with the Christmas decorations up.
It’s a theme park! It’s a bit of time-travel back into the heyday of smaller Old Florida attractions! There’s even a lovely boat-ride, an animal show and a swimming hole! (Well, it turns out that I could have gone swimming, but I didn’t think to bring my bathing suit when Christmas carols were being played everywhere!)
True confession: I insisted on taking the family because I’d read a story about the park in The New York Times.
