Mr. Spanky And The Very Bad Teeth
Over the last few weeks, my dog Mr. Spanky has had a swelling under his left eye that has gotten worse and worse. Before Easter Spanky was seen by my regular Veterinarian–who wasn’t sure exactly what the swelling was–but who gave Spanky a course of antibiotics and steroids. The swelling got worse, but by then my regular Vet had gone on vacation.
Yesterday Mr. Spanky went to visit the back up Veterinarian, who was confident that the now much worse problem was tooth related. Today Spanky had had TWO teeth removed. He had an abscess (ouch!) and a second tooth had gotten infected.
Last night I was a total wreck, thinking of all the things that Spanky’s swelling could be, if it hadn’t been an infected tooth.
Even though Spanky has had a very hard life, this tooth extraction went smoothly. Now I just have to keep Mr. Spanky and the Giant Puppy apart so that Spanky doesn’t burst his stitches open!
I think we’re both better now!
The upside of this: I learned that you can get a root canal for your dog, if your dog needs one. Since Mr. Spanky doesn’t have a modeling career, we opted not to get him a root canal!
