What Year Is This? Skeeviest “Job” Posting In “Writing Gigs” on Austin Craigslist!
Every so often I look at the Craigslist writing ads, figuring that there might be something useful mixed in among the dreadfulness. Sometimes the cresting point of the dreadfulness is so high that you can’t help but notice it, point at it, and spend time mocking it!
This morning I found a fabulous offer in with the Craigslist “writing” ads, though I suspect that the only writing going on here is what other people will be writing about this job opening!
This is the ad for a “Beautiful Young Bilingual (Spanish/Enlish[sic]) Personal Assistant (Georgetown)”
This ad seems to be requesting so much more than someone with the ability to manage a Google calendar. “Beautiful” “Free Spirit” “Flexible” and “Send Pic with reply” are the kind of job parameters indicating Excel spreadsheets won’t be the kind of sheets this job offer is about. PowerPoint presentations likely won’t be necessary, though it seems like other sorts of presentations may be called for. It’s also likely that an inability to spell won’t be counted against against potential employees; or at least it won’t be counted against them in the way that say, a large facial wart, an extra few pounds or maybe being a long way over 18 might be counted against them!
While it’s legal to work in most occupations at the age of 16 in Texas–and you’ll find plenty of 16 year-olds working at the Dairy Queen in every small town in the state– 18 is the age of consent for a lot of other things.
Buy hey, this could totally be a legit job posting from, say, 1941.
Below is a screenshot of the ad.
